some third parties were their own goal, which isn't clear at the beginning of the game. So you switch allegiances back and forth, and then there's this. So you are convinced to join one side, and even though they were your countrymen to begin with, they're a little crazy and just want to kill for killing's sake. And even after the fall of civilization, some of the military commanders have just said, okay, now's our chance to really wipe them out. So Will hooks up with Brenner, and Lin, and as they travel across this new ravaged landscape, they run into the Beast on several occasions, but they also run into the opposing - In the history of the world there were two nations that were constantly at war. Their self-proclaimed mission is to try to rescue people and put them into some sort of safe shelter and keep them safe. And they call themselves Brenner's Wolves. They are from the Rubinelle army, one of the remnants of the 12th Battalion. Will is rescued by a man named Brenner, and his second-in-command Lin. He's given up his human name because it's now survival of the fittest. He initially runs into a band of raiders, led by a guy called Beast. He's trying to find other people, because he thinks he might be the last guy alive. Advance Wars: Days of Ruin starts out with you following a young military commander named Will, whose school has just been destroyed. Look, supplies, let's kill them and take them.Īnd these are the people who populate this world. Then you have people who are more chaotic: Hey, look, there's food over there. I'm going to dominate as* de facto* king. Then you have the people who want nothing more than to advance their own goals: This is a chance for me to take over this whole section of land. There is some intrinsic good in some people, they want to get out and make sure people are safe. Well, you're going to see characters that want to get out and help you. What would you be doing in this situation? These are the questions they posed to themselves. Tsunamis, earthquakes, raging forest fires, clouds of ash and dust, no sunlight, vegetation is dying. A meteor shower hits the world, kills 90% of the human population. And this is not Megaland from the last three games, it's completely new. What happens is, a meteor shower has hit this world. So based on that kernel of thought, they really ran with that and created a world that would have helped them create war that fit into that new vision. This time they said that war is darker and grittier, and war is really fast, you need the ability to react - to survive on the battlefield, you have to be quick. Greens, purples, yellows, happy-go-lucky scenario. What is war? Maybe the Japanese idea of a war game a good turn-based strategy game, but the story, the characters, weren't very realistic in terms of real war. So they said, okay, let's take a look at the franchise. There was no cosmetic change that people could get right away. but it's not a lot different.īut the developers were saying: But we changed so much! But all of the development changes were tweaks in gameplay. The development team, when we posed this question to them, came back and said: Over the course of this franchise, this long-running franchise, they were getting feedback over the last couple of games that was saying, yeah, we love this game, really fun to play. I've been asked a lot, why the redesign, what's up with the new characters, the game seems kind of dark in tone. Streamlined some of the gameplay, quicker tempo. This time around, the tag line you can see on the package, it's " Advance Wars Reborn." Same great gameplay, based in war, but it's a darker, grittier, much more somber version of Advance Wars.
